As we journey through the Lenten season, we see the spread of the COVID19 virus in a number of countries. Our prayers are with those who suffer, who provide health care and who need support materially. In solidarity with those who suffer and in response to the CDC’s request that gatherings of people modify their practices to lessen the impact when there is an increase domestically, the Oratory parishes are initiating the following practices immediately:
We will abstain from the common chalice at holy communion until Easter or when it is advisable to resume.
We will refrain from shaking of hands, hugging or touching at the sign of peace, while making a gesture to those around us to indicate our connectedness and unity.
We will provide ample hand sanitizer in the sacristies and narthexes of the churches.
We will share medical and health updates and encourage everyone to stay aware of developments individually and to share that information with those who may not have ready access to the internet.
We will stand against stigmatization or discrimination of persons based on ethnicity or country or origin or perceived origin as we continue to welcome all disciples and seekers into our communities.
Let us pray with and for one another, those affected and those who have died to date. May the grace of God bring healing and wholeness to our struggling world this Lent.
